Here we are, already 2 weeks into the new year. A time where most people have already started their New Year resolutions, I have just begun to consider mine. Although it really isn’t so much about a resolution, but a time to sit and ponder what I can do to improve our family lifestyle or life choices. So, yes, I am “behind” in getting started putting pen to paper, but my mind has been cranking.
So, here is a list of 5 lifestyle choices I plan to tackle this year, lifestyle choices I will share here and little snip bits on my Instagram account.
- Grow a garden
- Do more art
- Train for a 10K
- Begin cycling (Yikes!)
- Visit more National Parks
Oh! how I love gardens! About 5 years ago, before we moved to the house we are in now. I grew an amazing garden with heirloom tomatoes, zucchini, a variety of heirloom pumpkins and many wonderful things. You get the picture. It was one of my favorite activities, tending the garden and harvesting. Especially for the children. They loved to see the vegetable grow and see how fast everything grew in general.
Well, that ended when we moved to our current home and adopted some dogs. Now our little dog Small’s is a chihuahua/ terrier mix. He is fine, he barks happy and is just a sweetheart. But our other dog, not so much. Don’t get me wrong, she is sweet! Just bigger and more needy. So, umm yeah! Our bigger dog, our mini aussie, Smuckers. Thought we had gotten her a diggin box with fabulously soft soil to dig in. She diligently dug up every single starter I planted, and had I started from seed. I promptly disciplined her, re-planted the survivors and went back inside. Well, apparently she thought it was some sort of game because we repeated this process until I had nothing left. So needless to say, I abandoned that idea for a while. Partially because we had been working and investing money into landscaping our front yard. But no more!!! That project is done!!!I will succeed in having a vegetable garden this year! So excited!!!
What can I say about art, other than I find such joy in experimenting, creating, sharing and teaching it. This year I plan to do a great many things with art. Like paint 100 faces. Why faces? Well, because I am afraid to even attempt them! That is why! Silly I guess, but I also plan to teach more art classes covering a whole host of mediums. So lots more art this year for sure! I also hope to begin selling some of my art pieces this year.
So here I am 6 months in to my running. I must admit I am pretty comfortable with where I am and could easily maintain what I have going on. But My hubby would like to see me do more and challenge myself. So, here I go. I will train for a 10K and will work diligently to be careful with my ankle. After all we should all strive to be better and improve ourselves. right!?
Now what can I say about cycling…well, I like the idea of going around town on a bike, biking on trails and going on long scenic rides. But I admit, I am not a cyclist! I will really need to focus on endurance and getting my legs stronger. It is so different than running. But, lucky for me, I have a friend who is an amazing cyclist and will be taking me under her wing! Now to pray for my buns!!! They will be sore!
Ahh, the great outdoors!!! I want to be there everyday!!! Not sure exactly what happened to me this last year. Maybe it was the loss of my father, turning 40, or a new awakening that just happened within me. But I have an overwhelming desire to see the mountains and hike them, visit lakes and fish them, and follow meandering streams and just see nature and be in it. I want to breath in that clean crisp morning air, see and hear the birds that are native to the area. To look up at the heavens and see the glory of my God’s creation from mountain tops. That is where my heart is right now.
Mind you, I still love visiting historic places and learning about the people that have lived and died there. So, I will still plan on doing a lot of that!
I will still be cooking and sharing recipes, working on DIY projects, and homeschooling. But I will also be doing so much more. I look forward to sharing what I do, the good, the not so good, and any challenges with you here and on Instagram. I hope my post encourage you, like other bloggers have encouraged me.
